A Father’s Love For His Gay Son
By More Light Presbyterians
In January we shared a post by Amelia, a mother who wrote about her 7 year old son’s crush on GLEE’s Blaine, a gay high school student. She spoke about her “7 year old (possibly) gay son.” The post received a torrent of response. The boy’s father Dave now weighs in at the Huffington Post about his unconditional love for his son. He challenges the hurtful and hateful messages to his wife’s post about their son. He also expresses compassion for the fathers who have been wrongly taught homophobia and therefore struggle to love their LGBT children.
We believe every child is a gift from God. We believe all children are created in the image of God. We believe that God’s unconditional love for all can be a inspiration and source of love for parents as they strive to love, accept and support their children, no matter the sexual orientation or other human differences. We give thanks for Amelia and Dave for sharing their family stories with the world. We give thanks to God for parents who love their children just the way they are as God as made them. We hope and pray that the Presbyterian Church (USA) will teach parents how to love their children including LGBT ones.
