Out Of The Amendment One Ashes: All Means All

Last Wednesday morning, North Carolinians awoke to the news that discrimination had been written into their constitution via the passage of Amendment One.  While tears turned to cheers when President Obama announced his support of marriage equality, people in 42 states are still left with legal bans on marriage equality, all of them in existence because of religion-driven LGBT discrimination.

Christians in support of LGBT rights still clearly have much work to do. We must continue to name the Biblical values that drive our support of LGBT equality and amplify them to the wider world.

The Rev. Mark Sandlin, a North Carolina pastor and LGBT advocate, has launched an initiative to do just that.  All MEANS All (ALL = ALL) is a new feature of his blog that invites Christians to submit articles that “inform folks about the realities of the Bible and where it stands on the issue of gay marriage, bullying and all things related to becoming a more inclusive people.”

His hope? That we LGBT-inclusive Christians “keep a constant and highly visible presence on Facebook and Twitter.”

As Rev. Sandlin states, “There are a lot of kind and caring people in North Carolina who voted for the amendment because they didn’t have all the information. The All MEANS All project is meant to begin the work now of informing the public for the future…of practicing love relentlessly so that love might prevail.”

Amen to that.
