Historic Change Inspires Hope For General Assembly
The iconic wisdom from the ancient Hebrew prophet Isaiah inspires the 220th General Assembly’s theme: Walking, Running, Soaring in Hope. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31).
Isaiah’s promise of renewal of strength to be able to soar like eagles offers comfort and hope. May this be so for each of you. May this be so for the General Assembly that opens 9 days from now in Pittsburgh. For those of you who will be there, we look forward to seeing you at MLP events, in the Exhibit Hall and at our Hospitality Suite. All of you will be able to be there with us online via our GA blog. As Jane Parker Huber inspired us to sing and to be, let us “Live Into Hope.”
The 220th General Assembly will receive the ratification of the 219th General Assembly’s Ordination Amendment 10-A, now G-2.0104. This historic change removing barriers from qualified LGBT Presbyterians to be able to serve as ministers, elders and deacons inspires hope for this upcoming Assembly.
We give thanks to God for this amazing grace moment and change in our Church that God and you made possible. Your belief in the Gospel that includes everyone and God’s love that embraces all, your prayers and sharing your faith stories in harmony with God’s Spirit reforming and transforming the Church and all of us, makes all the difference. May this continue to be so in Pittsburgh.
