Catholic Parents Talk To Maryland About Marriage Equality
Marylanders for Marriage Equality released a new web ad featuring lifelong Catholics Pat and Jenny Nugent. They have been married for forty-eight years and have seven children and eleven grandchildren. “We are both cradle Catholics, have always participated in church been very active in our parishes,” Jenny said.
When their son Kevin was a sophomore in college, he wanted to talk to them over dinner one night. “He hesitated and he started a couple times, than stopped, and then finally he said I’m gay,” Pat remembers.
Jenny talked about knowing many gay couples and how she wants her son to have the same “security and fidelity in a relationship.”
This November, families across Maryland will have the opportunity to vote for marriage equality in the state. Pat tells fellow Marylanders, “I’m going to vote my conscious and vote for question number 6 in November.” Join the Nugent family and other Christians around the state and support marriage equality.
