Week In Review

Welcome to Believe Out Loud’s Week In Review, a weekly digest of the latest headlines at the intersection of Christian faith and LGBT equality.

Some evangelical Americans are devastating the world.

In a recent shift, the Boy Scouts of America rethinks its position on gay equality. This means that “there would no longer be any national policy regarding sexual orientation,” a spokesperson shared with the New York Times. “The chartered organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting would accept membership and select leaders consistent with each organization’s mission, principles, or religious beliefs.”

LGBT activists ended the Creating Change conference last Sunday, and President Obama made a guest video appearance. Thousands of activists from around the world participated in the 25th Annual National Conference on LGBT equality sponsored by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

Bishop Gene Robinson accepted the Susan J. Hyde Award for Longevity in the Movement for his commitment to LGBT equality.

Rev. Dr Nancy Wilson, moderator of the Metropolitan Community Churches and an openly gay minister, read the scripture at the Inaugural Interfaith Prayer Service last Tuesday. Before the service, she shared this reflection about what the opportunity means to her and millions of LGBT people around the world

Sarah Posner recently talked with Christian ethicist David Gushee about the Louie Giglio controversy. Conservative Christians can evolve on LGBT equality, which I discussed recently in the Advocate.

Here’s a final thought from Thomas Williams: “People are people, a person a person. It doesn’t matter if you are gay or heterosexual; you are the same in God’s eye.”–January 25 @ Believe Out Loud Facebook
