MLK Day of Service
Today marks the 25th anniversary of the MLK Day of Service. The day commemorates Martin Luther King Jr.’s persistent attitude towards bettering society. Individuals and groups are encouraged to volunteer and uplift communities to bring harmony amongst the people — a goal that MLK set his life to do.
Martin Luther King Jr. promoted peace amongst people of all creeds regardless of skin tone, sexuality and faith. Some notable LGBT individuals served alongside MLK during his campaigns. Two of those LGBT figures were novelist James Baldwin and civil rights organizer Bayard Rustin, two African-American LGBT members who wanted to see change for the growth of an inclusive society.
This #MLKDAY, remember the fight for equality that went down in the past and that is still happening today.
