LGBTQ Celebrities Make Emotional Case To Support President Obama

This video, released by the Obama campaign early Monday morning, made a powerful call to action to supporters of LGBTQ equality.

Celebrities including Jane Lynch, George Takei, and Billie Jean King shared their stories about the struggle of what it meant to be gay in a world that did not accept them.

“Being gay became my big secret,” said Jane Lynch. “I was homophobic for so much of my life. I wasn’t comfortable in my own skin until I was probably 51,” said Billie Jean King.

The group could not be more proud to have a President that has made so much progress advancing the LGBTQ agenda within the law. With Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell being repealed, legislation helping to protect LGBTQ Americans against hate crimes, and supporting marriage equality, they believe Obama has been successful. 

“It’s amazing how each generation keeps pushing the ball forward. President Obama has pushed it forward faster than any time in the history of our community,” King stated.

But the fight isn’t over. With the potential of Governor Romney becoming President, there is a strong fear that this progress could be swiftly taken away.

“Thomas Jefferson said we have to re-fight this fight with every generation. And it’s our turn now,” Lynch proclaimed.

George Takei could not be more proud to be an out and open member of the LGBTQ community. “The fact that I can speak and live openly is because we have leaders who are strong,” he said.
