Good Monday morning. Welcome to Believe Out Loud’s Week In Review, a weekly digest of the latest headlines in Christian faith and LGBT equality. We’ve been away for the holiday season and hope you’ve had a great start to 2013. 

There are seven openly transgender clergy in the U.S. Episcopal church. Religion and Politics takes an inside look, featuring the Rev. Dr. Cameron Partiridge.

Last Tuesday, the Catholic Church hurled insulting messages at gay Americans in Illinois, as the state legislature prepares to welcome a marriage equality bill. The Catholic hierarchy has created similar headlines in recent weeks, but there are some Catholic voices offering a different perspective.

“It has taken a crazy band of anti-gay zealots to bring us all together,” says Paul Raushenbush in a thank you note to one of the most hated churches in America–Westboro Baptist Church.

Last Thursday, Tammy Baldwin was sworn in as the first openly gay United States Senator, and Wisconsin’s first female senator.

When confronted by hate speech, these two gay men received support from customers and employees of a Ohio pizza truck.
